All Is Full of Love fue el quinto single del álbum Homogenic, publicado por la escritora, compositora, cantante y actriz islandesa, Björk, en 1997. La artista, que destaca por su interés en gran variedad de estilos, y por experimentar con nuevos sonidos e imágenes, ha vendido más de 15 millones de discos en solitario, y no deja indiferente a nadie con sus canciones, en las cuales une música y video en perfecta simbiosis, gracias a su gran expresividad como actriz y a sus increibles letras.

La canción que hoy nos ocupa, tuvo bastante éxito en EEUU y en el Reino Unido, colocándose entre los primeros puestos de las listas en ambos países. El videoclip asociado a este tema, es un claro ejemplo de la originalidad y, sobre todo, de la importancia de la parte visual de las canciones de Björk, que completan la experiencia musical a la perfección.

The Donnas es un grupo totalmente femenino formado por Brett Anderson (Voz), Allison Robertson (Guitarra), Maya Ford (Bajo) y Torry Castellano (Batería). Antes de publicar su disco Gold Medal en 2004 la banda usaba seudónimos. Cada miembro se conocía por el nombre de Donna y la primera letra de su apellido.

Estas cuatro chicas se conocieron en el colegio de la localidad de Palo Alto, California en 1993. Comenzaron haciendo versiones en el garaje de Torry Castellano. En 1997 publican su primer álbum de estudio llamado The Donnas, sacando en 1998, 99 y 2001 otros tres albums con la discográfica Lookout! Records. En 2002 consiguen el éxito con Spend the Night su primer álbum con Atlantic Records. El single Take it Off de este mismo álbum consiguió la 17ª posición en la lista Modern Rock. En 2004 sacan Gold Medal colocándolo en la 76ª posición del Billboard 200. El ultimo lanzamiento se titula Bitchin'(2007).

Hace unos instantes iba a escribir aquí mismo: Era obvio que tenía que llegar el día en que publicase esta canción, en su día decidí escoger una entre las de su primer disco, y acabé por hacer una entrada del álbum completo, me cuesta horrores elegir entre temas de este grupo, todos son increiblemente buenos.

Obviamente, o no tan obviamente, para los que no los conozcáis, me refería al tema The Kill. Pero justo cuando ya había escrito estas líneas me topé con la versión en acústico de The Story, otro sencillo del segundo álbum de 30 Seconds To Mars, A Beautiful Lie, publicado en 2005.

The Story es una de esas canciones que jamás se escuchan en la radio, pero que te sorprenden cuando tus oídos observan detenidamente el disco que tienes entre manos. Con una base melódica claramente definida, y un par de rupturas en la monotonía de la misma, además de una letra realmente emotiva, 30 Seconds to Mars nos vuelven a demostrar como pueden hacer magia en esto de la música, y acercarnos cualquier sentimiento que se propongan. La voz de Jared Leto y esa fantástica guitarra hacen el resto, y bordan lo que, en mi opinión, es una obra maestra de la música contemporánea.




Y por si queda alguna duda, nos maravillan con una actuación en directo, brindándonos una versión en acústico espectacular:



PD: Si os fijáis en el vídeo, Jared Leto aparece con gorra, y apenas se le ve la cara, ¿será este gesto un ejemplo de lo que él ya ha comentado en muchas ocasiones, acerca de no querer utilizar su fama como actor para promocionar su carrera musical? Si es así, muchos actores/músicos deberían aprender de este chico.

Love Hurts fue el tercer single (en Europa) del último álbum de los californianos Incubus, Light Grenades, publicado en 2006. El tema, que fue promocionado en 2007, no tuvo mucha trascendencia en las listas de éxitos, y ha quedado bajo la sombra de los dos primeros singles, Anna Molly y Dig, que cosecharon excelentes resultados.

A pesar de esto, no puedo evitar que esta canción sea, de lejos, mi canción favorita de este disco, ni siquiera el ritmo frenético de Anna Molly puede hacer frente a los suaves acordes, la letra y la voz de Brandon Boyd. Impresionante.

Os dejo también con la versión en acústico, que fue incluida en el cd-single de Anna Molly. Estos chicos nunca dejarán de sorprenderme.

Downfall fue el primer single del álbum debut del grupo Trust Company, titulado The Lonely Position of Neutral, y que fue publicado en el año 2002. Este tema fue bien recibido en las listas de éxitos, colocándose en los primeros puestos de las más importantes en EEUU, llegando a estar en el #6 en el US Modern Rock y en el US Mainstream Rock, algo bastante meritorio para ser su primer disco y ser unos completos desconocidos. El álbum fue certificado como disco de oro.

La banda, además, hizo una gira con grupos del calibre de 30 Seconds to Mars o Papa Roach, amén de participar en el Pop Sux Tour en 2002 junto con bandas de renombre como KoRn o Disturbed.

En 2005, poco después de publicar su segundo álbum, el grupo se separó. Pero recientemente han anunciado su regreso. Su próximo disco saldrá a la venta en no mucho tiempo, os mantendremos informados.

Canción incluida en su último disco, As I am, del que se vendieron 742.000 copias en una semana, y más de un millón en dos. Es el tercer álbum de estudio de Alicia, que claramente arrancó con fuerza, la misma que tiene su primer single (No one) que también merece mucho la pena.

Además de mona y una gran música, esta buena muchacha colabora actualmente con la ONG Keep A Child Alive. Así, con fines benéficos, ha grabado una canción junto a Bono de U2: Don't give up (Africa).

Sure looks good to me', además de una preciosa canción, es, según dice ella misma, su mantra, las palabras se repite tantas veces como necesite, que recuerdan que no es tan terrible caer, porque uno vuelve a levantarse ... y así son las cosas. Porque significa muchas cosas, porque en vivo suena aún mejor que en el disco... (doy fe); porque a mí personalmente me supone una buena dosis de energía, música, letra, interpretación y demás; y porque tal vez a alguien más le resulte útil.
Para todas las montañas rusas del mundo. Dos versiones, para comparar.

Figured You Out fue el segundo single del álbum The Long Road, publicado en 2003 por los canadienses Nickelback. Después del bombazo de Someday (canción que supongo todos conoceréis), Figured You Out fue todo un fracaso en las listas de éxitos, salvo en Canadá, donde estos chicos arrasan saquen lo que saquen. Fue un fracaso relativo claro está, ya que alcanzó el #1 en el US Mainstream Rock.

Este tema fue votado como una de las "100 peores canciones de amor" en la cadena de videos musicales VH1. Enhorabuena, esto no es una canción de amor, asi que sí, supongo que es de las 100 peores.

Hubo mucha polémica acerca de la letra de este tema, en la cual se sugería (criticándola por ello) que había contenido sexual, sobre drogas, violencia de género y demás burradas sin sentido. Hay gente que de verdad necesita una pequeña clase de comprensión lectora y, sobre todo, de interpretación literaria. Más aun conociendo los temas que suele tratar Nickelback. Olé por ellos. La mejor "anti-canción de amor" que he oído nunca.

En cuanto al aspecto musical, me quito el sombrero, como siempre con estos chicos, el ritmo acompaña de forma magistral al contenido de la letra, y consigue añadir un matiz a la lírica de los versos, que evita cualquier interpretación érronea de las mismas, y que los amplifica y perfecciona.

Sweet Emotion fue el primer single del álbum Toys in the Attic, publicado por la conocida banda Aerosmith en 1975. Este fue su tercer trabajo, es por muchos considerado como uno de los mejores álbumes de la historia del rock, y nos trajo temas como este, una de las insignias de los "Bad Boys" de Boston.

Aerosmith consiguió por primera vez con esta canción entrar en el top 40 de las listas de EEUU, alcanzando el puesto #36. Además, Sweet Emotion ha sido incluida en prácticamente todos sus discos recopilatorios.

Desde su debut en 1973, estos chicos de Boston han publicado 14 álbums originales, otros 5 en directo y 8 recopilaciones. Si bien han ido cambiando su estilo, siguen desprendiendo ese mismo "aire" que tanto nos maravilla a muchos.

Por cierto, os dejo aqui la canción original, que en el videoclip entre conversaciones sugerentes y demás no se aprecia en todo su esplendor.

Wherever You Will Go fue el primer single del álbum debut de los californianos The Calling, titulado Camino Palmero, publicado en 2002. Desde entonces ha sido su mayor éxito en las listas de todo el mundo, llegando a los primeros puestos en EEUU y en el Reino Unido (cosa bastante meritoria para ser su debut).

El grupo, que está formado únicamente por el solista Alex Band y el guitarrista Aaron Kamin, que le acompaña en las voces, lanzó en 2004 su por ahora último disco, Two, antes de decidir tomarse un descanso en 2005. En los próximos meses Alex Band pondrá a la venta su primer trabajo en solitario, veremos que tal sale.

Kula Shaker es una banda Británica de Rock Psicodelico que alcanzo el éxito durante la era del Britpop. Creada en 1995 y separada en 1999, en 2004 se vuelven a juntar para grabar nuevos temas. Kula Shaker esta formada por Crispian Mills (vocalista)Alonnza Bevan (bajo), Paul Winter-Hart (bateria), Harry Broadbent (teclado desde 2006).

Tiene tres albums a la venta K (1996), Peasants, Pigs, and Astronauts (1999), Strangefolk (2007). Su primer álbum K logro estar tres semanas en el Billboard Top 200. Hush sale como single de K en 1997 vendiendo unas 200.000 copias. Actualmente están girando por Europa y Japón presentando su ultimo disco Strangelfolk, después de haber tocado el año pasado en Fuji Rock y Bilbao BBK Live entre otras.

Hush es una canción del artista de country Joe South que Deep Purple versiono en su disco The shades of Deep Purple. También os pongo el vídeo original de 1968 de Deep Purple, 20 años mas tarde vuelven a grabar Hush con un estilo mucho mas heavy. Puede que os suene del anuncio de Jaguar. Espero que os guste.

Molinos de Viento fue incluida en el álbum La Leyenda de la Mancha, publicado en 1998 por el grupo español Mägo de Oz. Es por muchos considerada como una de las mejores canciones hechas por la banda, y, además, hizo aparición en otros dos discos más, primero con su versión en directo en Fölktergeist (2002), del cual fue single, y, más adelante en el recopilatorio The Best Oz (2006), para el cual se hizo una nueva versión en la que se incluían nuevos sonidos y arreglos que no estaban en la original.

Me habría gustado poder poner alguna otra canción, como La Venganza de Gaia, pero debido a su duración y la limitacion de Youtube... me da cosa ponerla cortada, ya veré si más adelante la publico. De todos modos os recomiendo que la escuchéis.

Stockholm Syndrome fue el cuarto single del álbum Absolution, publicado en 2003 por el grupo inglés Muse, y del que ya pusimos una entrada dedicada a otra de sus canciones.

En 2005, una importante revista inglesa sobre música (Q) otorgó a Stockholm Syndrome el puesto #44 en el ranking de las 100 mejores canciones de guitarra.

Hoy de camino a casa me ha dado por escucharla una y otra vez y me he visto obligado a publicar semejante temazo. Aunque por razones personales no lo pongo con mucha alegría.
