What it is to Burn fue incluida en el album de mismo nombre, publicado en el año 2002 por la banda estadounidense Finch. Fue el segundo single del disco y tuvo un éxito notable en su país de origen, con sendos #15 y #35 puestos en las listas US Modern Rock y US Mainstream Rock. El tema destaca por la potencia del estribillo, en el que el solista Nate Barcalow hace gala de su buen hacer como cantante. Tampoco podemos olvidar la gran actuación del guitarrista del grupo, que aporta un toque característico a la canción durante los versos principales.
Este es un claro ejemplo de que los "gritos" (que no ladridos), bien empleados, y en buenas dosis, pueden hacer más mal que bien a una obra musical.

Losing My Religion fue incluida en el album Out of Time, publicado en 1991 por el grupo estadounidense REM. Fue el single que lanzó a la fama a la banda, alcanzando el #4 en las listas de éxitos estadounidenses y obteniendo un éxito considerable en Inglaterra. Además, el tema ganó un Grammy ese mismo año. El título de la canción nada tiene que ver con religiosidad, sino con una expresión usada en el sur de EEUU que viene a decir algo así como: "Perder los nervios o el civismo" (Ya lo se, hoy no estoy muy inspirado).
El single destaca por su gran aporte vocal, de una calidad excelente, y una letra bastante trabajada. Es un buen ejemplo del estilo musical que siguió REM en sus primeros años como grupo.
He venido porque en mi tierra natal las cosas van mal, la violencia y la pobreza avanzan a un ritmo mortal, tuve que salir,buscarme un porvenir, resurgir, resistir y conseguir sobrevivir. De todas formas España no es un pais racista, pero mi nombre esta en una lista y algunos me siguen la pista, ¿hasta cuando esta marginación?, mi diferencia es una excusa y la usan como razón de opresión. Tengo documentacion, tras meses de adaptacion, tras aprender vuestro idioma y una profesión, estudiaré vuestra cultura, aprenderé sus detalles, y me quedare en España, si me dejan vuestras calles.

Tierra Prometida fue incluida en el doble album Ars Magna/Miradas, publicado en 2005 por el cantante español de hip-hop Nach Scratch. El tema pertenece a la parte del doble album Miradas, en la que Nach expone en cada una de las canciones la vida desde el punto de vista de diferentes personas, esta en concreto es, obviamente, desde la perspectiva de un inmigrante. Es increible como el tema consigue transmitir la situación actual de los inmigrantes en este, lamentablemente, desagradecido país. Además de con sus rimas, la canción esta llena de intervenciones por parte de inmigrantes, con sus propias voces, dotando al sencillo de una parte emocional espectacular.
Dice todo o casi todo en unos escasos 3 minutos. Me quito el sombrero, por todo: las rimas, el contenido, la puesta en escena, la melodía de fondo, las voces de inmigrantes... Un gran trabajo de un gran artista.
Hay otros temas que puede que merecían más aparecer en el blog, pero dada la situación actual en España me parecía adecuado publicar esta, a ver si esta oleada de violencia fascista acaba de una vez.
Por cierto, increible como termina la canción, sobre todo esto:

My Favourite Game fue incluida en el álbum Gran Turismo en 1998 por la banda sueca The Cardigans. Fue el primer sencillo del disco y reventó las listas suecas haciendo debutar al album como #1 en el Top 100. Además alcanzó el #12 en las listas de singles de Inglaterra y se mantuvo 92 semanas en el top 200. Obtuvo el disco de oro en suecia, platino en Inglaterra y vendió mas de 3 millones de copias en todo el mundo. Además, ganó los grammies al Album del año y al Grupo Pop/Rock del año.
En lo referente al aspecto musical, el tema destaca por su originalidad en cuanto a ritmos y melodía, optando por una pegadiza y que, como rara vez ocurre en este género, gusta a la primera (o suele hacerlo).

Nothing's Forever fue incluida en el album DiEversity, publicado por el grupo finlandés Entwine en 2004. Es el cuarto trabajo de la banda y tuvo un discreto éxito a nivel mundial, logrando un buen puesto en las listas finlandesas, con un nada despreciable #11. Aunque Entwine comenzaron como grupo Death Metal, pronto decidieron cambiar a un estilo mas melódico, y con su segundo disco mostraron como se dirigían hacia un Gothic Metal mucho mas digerible. Como prueba de ello, en su ya 4º trabajo (tienen 5 hasta ahora), podemos encontrar esta maravilla de tema, en el que destacan las voces del solista Mika Tauriainen yla estupenda incursión del piano, y esos deliciosos riffs de guitarra, increible.
En definitiva, un imprescindible en vuestra lista de reproducción si os decantáis por este tipo de música. Que la disfrutéis!

Frozen fue publicada en el album debut Celldweller, de la banda estadounidense de mismo nombre, en 2003. El disco debutó como #17 en las listas de ventas por internet, siendo algo muy destacable para ser el primer album del grupo. El tema que nos ocupa va en la linea seguida por la banda en todos sus trabajos, mezcla elementos de generos tan variopintos como el Nü Metal, Techno, Rock Industrial... La mezcla sorprendentemente es muy pero que muy agradable a los oidos, grupos como este demuestran que la música electrónica puede hacer cosas de calidad, al contrario de lo que cabría esperar oyendo la bazofia que pulula por las discotecas en la actualidad.
Por cierto, lo ultimo que suena no es parte de la canción, pero es que era la que más calidad tenía en youtube y merece la pena el ruidito final.

Sweet Child O' Mine fue incluida en el album Appetite for Destruction, publicado en julio de 1987 por el grupo estadounidense Guns N' Roses. El tema fue el primer single de la banda en alcanzar el US Billboard 100, manteniéndose durante 2 semanas en el #1 en el verano de 1988. La historia de la canción es cuanto menos curiosa, al parecer, el batería Steven Adler y el guitarrista Slash estaban en un descanso y este último comenzó a tocar una melodía "graciosa" mientras hacía caras a Adler. Este le dijo que la volviese a tocar, y poco después Izzy Stradlin se unió a ellos con los acordes, el solista Axl se intrigó y comenzó a cantar el poema que había escrito para su entonces novia.
Lo que no se imaginaba Slash ni ningún componente del grupo es que esa melodía burlona se convertiría en la intro de uno de sus temas más éxitosos y conocidos a nivel mundial, referente del género y uno de los imprescindibles en cualquier colección o lista de reproducción.
Por lo demás, la canción destaca por los siempre increibles riffs de guitarra de Slash, además de la estupenda voz del solista Axl, que pasión le pone este hombre a toda la musica que hace, por Dios...
PD: Gran experiencia la de intentar imitar a Slash con un juguete como Guitar Hero en las manos... increible.

Animals fue incluida en el album All the Right Reasons, publicado en 2005 por el grupo canadiense Nickelback. Fue lanzada como single en 2006 y alcanzó el #1 en el US Mainstream Rock.
El tema supone un soplo de aire fresco dentro del album e incluso del estilo que ha venido siguiendo la banda durante sus 3 últimos discos. Estamos ante una canción que es Rock en estado puro, ritmos fuertemente marcados con una combinación de guitarra eléctrica-bajo-batería que hace temblar a cualquiera. Y es que los zambombazos de esta última son increibles, fijaos en el comienzo de la canción, espectacular.
El tema transmite justo lo que quiere transmitir, aventura, locuras, sexo (ups, esta palabra aumentará el número de búsquedas no deseadas en google xD)... y es que no hace falta ni leer la letra para sentir la canción, aunque no voy a engañaros, leedla, haceos un favor.
Me encanta la forma de contar la historia, con melodia y fuerza en el estribillo y tirando de bajo y batería en las partes "habladas", haciendo que estos fragmentos tengan más ritmo si cabe.
Siento repetir artista (aun tengo mucho mucho guardado en la recámara), pero después del parón en el blog (lo siento, las prácticas y estar enfermo durante una semana tuvieron la culpa), había que empezar con algo así para retomar con fuerzas el asunto.
Tengo que destacar esta parte de la letra, lo siento, me veo obligado, por la de carcajadas que me llevé la primera vez (y aun ahora) que la escuche.

El legado que nos ha dejado esta artista es importante. Despues de su tragica muerte en un accidente aereo las ventas de sus discos subieron. Mucho de los artistas han nombrado en sus letras a Aaliyah. Desde luego fue una gran perdida, si no ahora mismo tendriamos muchos mas exitos cantados por esta gran artista. Este single "Try Again" fue publicado en el 2000. Es una de las canciones mas conocidas de Aaliyah y sin duda una de las mejores, con la colaboracion de Timbaland. No sabemos donde habria podido llegar esta chica de 22 años, que aunque era joven prometia y mucho en la musica. Os dejamos con su video y esperamos que os guste.
