The Donnas es un grupo totalmente femenino formado por Brett Anderson (Voz), Allison Robertson (Guitarra), Maya Ford (Bajo) y Torry Castellano (Batería). Antes de publicar su disco Gold Medal en 2004 la banda usaba seudónimos. Cada miembro se conocía por el nombre de Donna y la primera letra de su apellido.

Estas cuatro chicas se conocieron en el colegio de la localidad de Palo Alto, California en 1993. Comenzaron haciendo versiones en el garaje de Torry Castellano. En 1997 publican su primer álbum de estudio llamado The Donnas, sacando en 1998, 99 y 2001 otros tres albums con la discográfica Lookout! Records. En 2002 consiguen el éxito con Spend the Night su primer álbum con Atlantic Records. El single Take it Off de este mismo álbum consiguió la 17ª posición en la lista Modern Rock. En 2004 sacan Gold Medal colocándolo en la 76ª posición del Billboard 200. El ultimo lanzamiento se titula Bitchin'(2007).

Figured You Out fue el segundo single del álbum The Long Road, publicado en 2003 por los canadienses Nickelback. Después del bombazo de Someday (canción que supongo todos conoceréis), Figured You Out fue todo un fracaso en las listas de éxitos, salvo en Canadá, donde estos chicos arrasan saquen lo que saquen. Fue un fracaso relativo claro está, ya que alcanzó el #1 en el US Mainstream Rock.

Este tema fue votado como una de las "100 peores canciones de amor" en la cadena de videos musicales VH1. Enhorabuena, esto no es una canción de amor, asi que sí, supongo que es de las 100 peores.

Hubo mucha polémica acerca de la letra de este tema, en la cual se sugería (criticándola por ello) que había contenido sexual, sobre drogas, violencia de género y demás burradas sin sentido. Hay gente que de verdad necesita una pequeña clase de comprensión lectora y, sobre todo, de interpretación literaria. Más aun conociendo los temas que suele tratar Nickelback. Olé por ellos. La mejor "anti-canción de amor" que he oído nunca.

En cuanto al aspecto musical, me quito el sombrero, como siempre con estos chicos, el ritmo acompaña de forma magistral al contenido de la letra, y consigue añadir un matiz a la lírica de los versos, que evita cualquier interpretación érronea de las mismas, y que los amplifica y perfecciona.

Sweet Emotion fue el primer single del álbum Toys in the Attic, publicado por la conocida banda Aerosmith en 1975. Este fue su tercer trabajo, es por muchos considerado como uno de los mejores álbumes de la historia del rock, y nos trajo temas como este, una de las insignias de los "Bad Boys" de Boston.

Aerosmith consiguió por primera vez con esta canción entrar en el top 40 de las listas de EEUU, alcanzando el puesto #36. Además, Sweet Emotion ha sido incluida en prácticamente todos sus discos recopilatorios.

Desde su debut en 1973, estos chicos de Boston han publicado 14 álbums originales, otros 5 en directo y 8 recopilaciones. Si bien han ido cambiando su estilo, siguen desprendiendo ese mismo "aire" que tanto nos maravilla a muchos.

Por cierto, os dejo aqui la canción original, que en el videoclip entre conversaciones sugerentes y demás no se aprecia en todo su esplendor.

The Final Countdown fue el primer single del álbum de mismo nombre, publicado por el grupo sueco Europe en 1986. En realidad la banda sueca no tenía prevista su presentación como single, ya que tenían preferencia por otra canción del disco. The Final Countdown fue pensada como introducción para los conciertos, pero ni ellos mismos se imaginaban el rotundo éxito que tendría este tema hasta que su compañía discográfica les recomendo publicarla como single.

The Final Countdown ha sido #1 en 26 países y ha vendido 8 millones de copias en todo el mundo.

En fin, todo un clásico que muchos de vosotros ya habréis escuchado, y a los que no: Que la disfrutéis!!

Wolfmother es un grupo que comenzó hace pocos años en 2003 en Sydney, Australia. Ellos se denominan "Retro-Rock" pero se pueden meter en el grupo de Hard Rock o Rock Stoner. En 2004 Wolfmother comienzan aparecer en grandes eventos como Homebake y el Big Day Out. En septiembre de ese mismo año sacan el EP Wolfmother que arrasa en las tiendas. En 2005 tras firmar con Interscope viajan a Los Angeles y graban su primer álbum Wolfmother junto al productor Dave Sardy (Red Hot Chili Pepers, Oasis, Marilyn Manson). En 2006 empiezan a girar promocionando el disco, y comparten escenario con artistas tan populares como Pearl Jam, Iggy Pop o Buckcherry en el Azkena Rock de Vitoria, además también tocaron gran parte de la gira europea teloneando a Pearl Jam.

Woman es la primera canción del disco y el cuarto single. Como curiosidades decir que ha sido numero 7 U.S. Mainstream Rock y numero 10 U.S. Modern Rock y también ha salido en juegos como Tony Hawk´s Project 8, Guitar Hero II. Espero que os guste!

Backyard Babies es una banda de punk-rock y hard-rock procedente de Nässjö (Suecia). El grupo cuenta entre sus influencias con Guns n Roses, Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, The Stooges, Kiss, y estuvieron en una ola de Rock Escandinavo que supuso un resurgir del Hard Rock a finales de los Años 90 y principios de la nueva década. En los que se incluyen grupos como Hellacopters(Suecia), Turbonegro(Noruega), Gluecifer(Noruega), Hardcore Superstar(Suecia)... La banda se formo en 1987 y aun sigue tocando después de sacar cinco discos. Es una de las bandas más influyentes de Escandinavia. Son uno de los estandartes del rock escandinavo, y han sabido hacerse un hueco en la escena internacional gracias a su actitud gamberra y sus sonidos agresivos. Durante la década de 1990 dieron múltiples conciertos y giraron por todo el mundo.

Minus Celsius fue el primer single de Stockholm Syndrome (2002) que consiguió el Grammy a mejor álbum sueco. El juego Guitar Hero III también tiene esta canción ;)

Wasteland fue el primer single del álbum Autumn Effect, publicado por los estadounidenses 10 Years. Este fue su primer "gran" trabajo, con una discográfica importante. Contiene varios temas que son versiones apenas modificadas de su anterior disco, lanzado en 2004, y que pasó más bien desapercibido. Entre esas canciones se encuentra esta que hemos puesto hoy.

Wasteland fue un completo éxito en EEUU, escalando las listas de éxitos sin parar, colocándose #1 en el US Modern Rock y #2 en el US Mainstream Rock.

Se han hecho varios videoclips para esta canción, uno para el primer álbum en el que apareció, en el que actuaba el actor y sobrino del cantante, Brad Renfro, en el que se cree que se basa el tema (adicción a las drogas), y que fue encontrado muerto por sobredosis hace un par de meses.

El clip que he puesto es el segundo en aparecer, y solo puede verse online. Más adelante aparecería el último y definitivo, con reivindicaciones sobre los derechos humanos en el mundo.

Recientemente han publicado otro álbum, Division, os mantendré informado :P

Don't Cry fue incluida en el (doble) álbum Use Your Illusion. El tema original se encuentra en el primer volumen, incluyendo el segundo una versión alternativa, que varía en algunos fragamentos en letra y ritmo (esto último ligeramente).

Es curioso el origen de esta canción. El guitarrista de la banda, Izzy Stradlin, solía salir con una chica por la que Axl Rose se sentía atraido, una noche, mientras esta se despedía, el cantante Axl Rose estaba llorando fuera del local nocturno Californiano The Roxy, entonces la chica le dijo: "Don't Cry" ("No llores"). La noche siguiente, Izzy y Axl escribieron en 5 minutos la letra de esta canción.

Grandísima balada a la vieja usanza rockera. Impresionante en todos los sentidos. Espero que os guste en este día tan señalado. Por cierto, feliz San Valentín a todos, aunque llegue un par de horas tarde.

Siento si parezco repetitivo pero acaba de salir el vídeo del ultimo single de QOTSA (Queens of the stone age) y en vísperas del concierto de mañana (viernes) en Madrid, al que voy a ir de cabeza y sin frenos, y que estamos en la semana moñas y mas aun el día moñas por excelencia (aunque sea viernes para mi sigue siendo 14) que mejor que esta canción y este vídeo lleno de amouuuuuuurrr.

Bueno que más decir de QOTSA, este es su tercer single del ultimo disco Era Vulgaris, ya salió en las Desert Sessions (Serie de discos grabados en el desierto de California que han hecho varios componentes de QOTSA, sobre todo Josh Homme, con colaboraciones como PJ Harvey o Mark Lanegan) y en el DVD Over the Years and Through the Woods. Era Vulgaris ha sido 14ª en Billboard 200 y 5ª en iTunes mientras que en el top de España ha estado en una discreta 65ª nada mal para un grupo extranjero de Rock !.

Songs for the deaf (2002) en este, el tercer disco de QOTSA, la banda estaba formada por Josh Homme (voz), Nick Oliveri (bajo), que se marcho al finalizar la gira, Dave Grohl bateria de nirvana, actualmente frotman de Foo Fighters, y Mark Lanegan (voz). QOTSA ha sufrido muchos cambios desde su formación, ya que solo Josh Homme continua desde el comienzo. La salida de Nick Oliveri parte muy importante del grupo puso en duda la continuidad de la banda.

Go with the flow fue uno de los singles de este disco, vendió mas de 900.000 copias. Canciones como esta y No One Knows (que subiré pronto) hicieron que el disco llegara a situarse en la lista de exitos americana Billaboard Top 40. El vídeo clip de este single fue nominado a tres MTV Video Music Awards ganando el de mejores efectos especiales. Varios vídeojuegos como Gran Turismo 4, Freestyle Street Soccer, o Juiced 2 incluyen esta canción en su banda sonora.

Para mí es la mejor canción del mejor disco de esta banda americana. El disco esta grabado de tal forma que entre canción y canción se cuelan anuncios y sonidos que hacen que el disco suene como si alguien estuviera escuchándolo en el coche.

Stricken fue incluido en el album Ten Thousand Fists, publicado en 2005 por el grupo estadounidense Disturbed. Fue el segundo single del disco y tuvo un éxito destacable, además de ser incluido en varias bandas sonoras de videojuegos conocidos como Project Gotham Racing 4, y su destacada aparición en el nuevo Guitar Hero III (puto vicio de juego xD).

El tema despunta por sus ritmos fuertemente marcados, apoyados por la sensacional voz del solista David Draiman, especialmente buena para estos menesteres. Tampoco podemos evitar mencionar la excepcional calidad del guitarrista Dan Donegan, que ejecuta unos riffs de guitarra realmente espectaculares.

Sin más que añadir, que la disfrutéis!

Sweet Child O' Mine fue incluida en el album Appetite for Destruction, publicado en julio de 1987 por el grupo estadounidense Guns N' Roses. El tema fue el primer single de la banda en alcanzar el US Billboard 100, manteniéndose durante 2 semanas en el #1 en el verano de 1988.

La historia de la canción es cuanto menos curiosa, al parecer, el batería Steven Adler y el guitarrista Slash estaban en un descanso y este último comenzó a tocar una melodía "graciosa" mientras hacía caras a Adler. Este le dijo que la volviese a tocar, y poco después Izzy Stradlin se unió a ellos con los acordes, el solista Axl se intrigó y comenzó a cantar el poema que había escrito para su entonces novia.

Lo que no se imaginaba Slash ni ningún componente del grupo es que esa melodía burlona se convertiría en la intro de uno de sus temas más éxitosos y conocidos a nivel mundial, referente del género y uno de los imprescindibles en cualquier colección o lista de reproducción.

Por lo demás, la canción destaca por los siempre increibles riffs de guitarra de Slash, además de la estupenda voz del solista Axl, que pasión le pone este hombre a toda la musica que hace, por Dios...

PD: Gran experiencia la de intentar imitar a Slash con un juguete como Guitar Hero en las manos... increible.
