Como ya os dije hace unos días, después del mancillamiento del nombre de Staind con la primera de nuestra lista de Aberraciones musicales, os quería traer una canción de verdad.
Outside fue el segundo single del álbum Break the Cycle, publicado en 2001 por los estadounidenses Staind. La canción rondaba la cabeza del cantante Aaron Lewis desde los comienzos de Staind y no pretendía ser comercializada, era uno de los temas que tocaba en acústico para sacar dinerillo que iría a parar al grupo. Un día, de forma totalmente espontanea, durante el Family Values Tour en 1999, justo antes de salir al escenario decidió tocar este tema, acompañado por el cantante de Limp Bizkit, Fred Durst (con el que Staind tiene buena relación).
Para sorpresa de Staind, la canción fue tomada por las emisoras de radio y fue un auténtico éxito. Fue entonces cuando Staind se planteó dar forma al tema, que hasta entonces no había tenido una letra concreta ni definida, y que era cantada cada vez de una forma diferente.
En 2001 cosechó un éxito brutal en EEUU, dominando las listas US Mainstream Rock y US Modern Rock.
